Our Creative Director David Wave was approached by MakeMake to craft a series of animations for the new branding of NHL on ESPN
2D & 3D ANIMATIONS
The animations created are a result of a combination of traditional 2D techniques and 3D environments which makes a perfect hybrid between graphic design aesthetics and realistic high end premium visuals.
SIZZLE REEL
This sizzle reel created by ESPN to introduce the new branding, showcases some of the animations created and how impact-fully work throughout the NHL brand, the teams and live broadcast.
ANIMATION | TEXTURES & SURFACES
Explorations of different surfaces related to the Hockey world: close ups of clothing, tapes animated in stop motion, walls… Quick animations that needed a high visual impact to transport the viewer in a snap to the NHL world.
PROCESS | CEL ANIMATIONS + 3D RENDERS
The first step was to find a concept and customize it to every single element such as logos and typography. The concept in these animations is based on the idea of ice melting using traditional cel animation.
The second step was to load these animated elements as a texture into the realistic scenarios in C4D, rendering in Octane, and compositing in AE. That’s the formula to get these stunning final results.
